With the development of mobile technologies, the number of applications available, and the increase in Internet use, the profession and the demand for UX Designer has increased considerably. But who is he? what are its missions? his new challenges? how does the UX designer of tomorrow take shape?
Elitech Systems tells you about it through this article!
Who is the Designer UX?
In general, the role of the UX designer is to be the voice of the user, he defends his needs while respecting the objectives of the company. His projects vary considerably from one company to another, as does the size of his team and his priorities.
Despite a certain diversity of roles, there are many general functions that a UX designer performs regardless of the company in which he works. Its main missions are:
- User research and surveys . This is the starting point for each designer. It is at this stage that he will study user needs, problems, behaviors and goals. It is also during this first phase that the UX Designer collects information on the sector, competitors, standards, etc.
- Writing of prototypes . The UX Designer highlights the problem of the project (thanks to the previous step) and offers different models (mock-ups) that will allow you to draw the first lines of the project. Here the UX Designer will reflect the voice of the user and the organization.
- Validation and test with the user . This step identifies the problems encountered by users during interactions in the design prototype. Then make the necessary modifications and improvements.
- Presentation of the design to the company . This is the crucial part of the work of each designer. The UX designer should be able to present and interact with the project stakeholders in order to understand a potential problem.
Note that the UX designer does not pack his bags and leaves once the final product is out. UX is a constant process that lasts as long as the product is used. The product should be tested continuously to ensure that it meets customer and user satisfaction.
The 5 challenges of the UX Designer
If you are a UX Designer or are moving towards this voice, here are the five challenges you will face today and in the years to come.
Lack of understanding
For many people, the term UX Designer is synonymous with “giving a good appearance” to a site or application. As a UX Designer, it is therefore important to start each new project by explaining what you are going to do and this, to all stakeholders.
Remember to provide regular updates, involve your employees, discuss the user issues encountered … Or even more simply “leave your door open” to dispel false ideas about your business.
Meet deadlines and budget
As a UX designer, you will sooner or later face a lack of resources to carry out your project. Only you cannot skip the steps. Research on users for example is essential or even essential. Fortunately there are methods allowing you to respect your process and work methodology (social networks, telephone, etc.) without knowing how to use the portfolio!
Decide which problem to solve
As a UX designer, you are driven by curiosity and a burning desire to solve problems. The more information you find, the more problems you will identify – and the more difficult it will be to fix just one. From the start of any UX project, focus on THE basic challenges. Stick it on the wall above your desk and check it out whenever you need to focus again.
Design for unknown users
If you are developing a new product, you cannot study existing users. However, it is essential to make sure that you design the product according to user needs, instead of designing a product solely for your business objectives. In this case you will have to rely on your convictions & ideas, create temporary user personas, perform generative research or test with people who match the user profile …
Bridging the gap between design and development
The design of the project is validated, this is when development takes place. It is often said that without development, design is useless and that without design, development is unusable. Collaboration between the two is essential and yet sometimes complicated. The best way to avoid any discrepancy between design and development is to communicate early and often. Involve developers as soon as possible and share your mutual knowledge.
